Where I've Been (And Why I Think It Matters)
It's been a little over 2 weeks since I published a blog.
If you've stopped by my website wondering where the next post was, I'm sorry.
The truth is that life (and business) happened.
Over the last couple of weeks, I have been reminded that sometimes running a business means putting your head down and simply doing the work.
For me, that work has looked like creating presentations and pricing sheets, trying to land a big commercial client while trying to keep up with my marketing (failed that last one miserably). Trying to keep my business moving forward.
Outside of work, our family has been focused on helping my daughter, Elaina, continue her powerlifting journey and fundraising after earning the opportunity to represent Team USA. That has meant sponsorship packets, meetings with local businesses, fundraisers, travel planning, and a calendar that seems to get fuller every single day.
By the time the evening rolls around, I've found myself staring at my computer knowing I wanted to write.... but knowing I needed sleep more.
And I have a feeling a lot of business owners can relate to that.
Marketing is usually one of the first things to get pushed aside when business gets busy.
Not because it is important .
because operations have to come first.
The jobs still have to get done.
The customers still need to be taken care of.
The phones still ring,
The equipment still has to roll out.
The deadlines don't move just because life gets hectic.
Ironically, those busy seasons are often the ones worth documenting the most.
They're the moments your employees will remember years from now.
They're the projects that showcase the skill, teamwork, planning and pride that people outside your company rarely get to see.
Most people only see the finished result.
They don't see the early mornings.
The coordination.
The problem solving.
The people behind the work.
Whether its local business serving its community, a contractor compering a major installation, or a company tackling a project that takes months of planning, there's always a story unfolding behind the scenes.
And those stories deserve to be told.
That's one of the reasons I've found myself becoming more passionate about branding photography.
It's about more than creating nice images for a website.
It's about documenting the people, the process, the culture, and the work that makes a business what it is.
Because long after a project is finished, those photographs become part of the company's story.
As for me...
I'm still learning how to balance wearing all the hats that come with owning a business. Some weeks, I get it right. Some weeks, I don't. The last couple of weeks reminded me that it's okay to be in a season of doing instead of writing... as long as I come back and tell the story afterward. So thank you for sticking around while I took a short break. I've got plenty of stories to tell, and I'm looking forward to sharing them with you. Thanks for reading. I'll see you next week.
Until next time...
Keep chasing what matters.
Keep telling your story.
And remember...
What do you want remembered?
